St. Patrick's Day

You wake up and yawn. You look at your clock that reads 8:00. 'SHIT I'm late!!' you think as you jump out of bed. You are about to pull on your blue work shirt but realize it's Saint Patrick's day and your Irish friend Seamus would be after you if you didn't wear green so instead you grab a green shirt similar to that of the blue one.

You button your pants and run downstairs, grab a banana and run out the door. You eat the banana as you drive to the flower shop you work at. You live in Florida so it's always the perfect weather for flowers. As you pull up outside the shop, Seamus stands up. He had been sitting outside the doors to the shop. You notice none of the lights are on and wonder where Arthur and Allistor are.

You jump out of your car shouting, "Sorry I'm late!! I slept in!" Seamus smiles as he sees your green shirt and says, "I'm glad I don't have to set the leprechauns on ye lass. Ye know only ye and Arthur have the key right? Allistor went to grab coffee and Arthur's feeling a wee bit sick so he stayed home today."

You notice Seamus is wearing a big goofy green hat and a shirt with a four-leaf clover on it. When you laugh at his hat he says, "What, ye don't like me hat? That's rude lassie, I might set those leprechauns on ye now." You move to unlock the front door and say, "Why are you wearing it? If you really wanted to stand out with green, you could have chosen something less, I don't know, poofy, I guess."

He laughs at your choice of words to describe his hat and follows you into the shop, turning on the lights. "I don't know lass, I quite like, 'poofy'" he snickers. "Oh you shut up." You say as you throw an apron at him. He catches it and unfolds it to look. "You notice him giving it a strange look and ask, "What? Its the same one you always wear." He looks up concerned. "No green?" He asks, then laughs.

You sigh and walk over to a pot with clovers in it. You pick a couple. When you turn back around he had already put on the apron. You walk to Seamus, pulling out string from your apron as you go. You tie the bundle of clovers as well as you can to the strap of his plastic apron. You step back and say, "That better?" He looks down at the clovers, surprised.

He looks back at you laughing. "Much, thank ye lass." He looks back down at the clovers and pulls one in specific out. "Look," He said, holding the clover out to you. "A four-leaf. Ye must be really lucky today lass." You look close and sure enough, he was holding a four-leaf clover. "Here, stand still." He walks over to you and starts to mess with your hair.

"What are you doing?" You ask. "Just trust me lass, not like I'm messing up your hair." He says, laughing. He pulls his hands out of your hair and steps back, smiling. "See? Now we're matching." You reach up to the spot he was messing with and feel the clover entwined in your hair. The two of you turn at the sound of the front door opening.

You see Allistor walking in holding three cups of coffee. "What kind did 'ya get Allistor?" Seamus asks. Allistor hands him a cup. "The cafe was selling Irish coffee since it's St. Patrick's day." Allistor walks over to you and hands you your coffee. He points at the clover in your hair. "Where'd 'ya get that?" He asks.

You finger the clover again and say, "It was in one of our bushels." Behind Allistor you see Seamus pull another clover out of his own bunch. He also takes out some string from his apron pocket. Before Allistor knew what was happening, Seamus had jumped in front of him and tied the clover on his apron strap.

"Now we're all matching!" Seamus said, laughing. You laugh too and head behind the counter. Come on guys, get to work. It's past the time we're supposed to open. The day was fairly slow, it wa rare that you got a busy day. The only times you were busy were around holidays like Valentine's day or Christmas.

Whenever you weren't dealing with a customer (which was pretty much the whole day), you were watching Seamus work. You've had a crush on him for the longest time now but thought he didn't feel the same way, the way he acted so natural around you, he couldn't think of you as more than a friend. Every so often, Seamus would catch you staring. When this happened, he flash you a goofy smile and went back to whatever he was doing.

At the end of the day as you were watering the last flowers, the clover fell out of your hair. Of course it was so light you didn't notice anything had changed. Seamus who happened to be watching you walked over and picked up the clover. You turned toward him and he was so close to your face you blush.

"I think you dropped this lass." He said coolly. He worked it back into your hair. When he finished he looked back into your swirling ___ eyes. You couldn't help yourself, he was just so cute. You reached up and took his face in your hands and kissed him. Remembering yourself, you break away.

"I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." you say. He didn't answer, he didn't do anything for a minute. Almost as suddenly as you had, he garbs you around the waist and kissed you. You put your arms around his neck, wishing this moment could last forever. When you two finally break for air, you keep you foreheads close together.

"Don't be sorry, ___" He said. That was the first time he had used your name in, well, forever. "Is breá liom tú, mo seamair t-ádh." because of the crush you had on Seamus, you had been taking Irish lessons so you knew exactly what he said. You two kissed again, both feeling each other smile.

I have Irish in my blood, so hooray for that. I love this story, and I love Scotland and Ireland; they're awesome and I love them both.
